HSS-High Partners with DePelchin Children’s Center

HSS-High is pleased to announce that we have partnered with DePelchin Children’s Center in order to provide our students with counseling services. Our school is fortunate to have the assistance of Marylyn Crawford who has experience counseling students in a school setting. Ms. Crawford will be on campus once a week (Thursdays) to meet with students who have been referred to her.
Students may be referred either by a staff member or may request to meet with Ms. Crawford on their own. As a parent, you may know of a situation that your child is having difficulty dealing with or you may sense that something is troubling your child. HSS-High Students are College-Bound

On October 2nd, Harmony School of Science – High was pleased to welcome more than 50 College and University representatives from within Texas and out of state to our campus for the First Annual College Fair. Students and parents took advantage of the opportunity to meet one-on-one with admissions officers and recruiters in order to ask questions about admission requirements, housing, financial aid, scholarships, internships and specific majors.

The HSS-High counseling team wants to recognize the many people whose contributions made this event successful. Many thanks to our wonderful PTO for providing delicious box lunches and drinks for the representatives and making them feel welcome at our school. And finally, thank you to the many students and parents who participated and gained valuable information for their higher education in the near future.

HSS Sugar Land High Administration and Faculty

Support One of Our Own

Some of you may have seen a news story on Channel 13, Thursday, September 25, 2014 about a house fire that started in the garage. The house belonged to the family of one of our HSS – High students.

In cooperation with our National Honor Society chapter, we are starting a drive to help this family. We are accepting gift cards(preferably Walmart, Target or Grocery Stores) and cash as well as new items to help them start over. Toiletries, household products, canned food, school supplies and cleaning supplies are also requested. Please no used items.

Harmony students, staff, administration and their families are well-known for their generosity, and we ask that you come through again for one of our own. Donations will be accepted in Room 219 next to Mrs. Merchant’s office. Please see Mrs. Merchant, Mrs. Anderson or Mr. Genc if you have any further questions.

Student Parking Permits

This is a reminder that any student who drives to school must have a student parking tag hanging visibly on the rearview mirror. Student parking areas include behind the gym/cafeterias and along the fence on the east side of the building. Students parking in other areas or not displaying proper parking permits will be towed.

Student parking permits can be purchased in the front office for $90 and are good for the entire 2014-15 academic year. We strongly encourage students to carefully keep track of their parking permit because lost or stolen permits will cost the full amount to replace.

Don't Forget to Pay Lunch Balances

HSS High is a small school with limited resources and needs your support to provide a quality education. You can help us by making sure your child’s lunch account has enough funds at all times. Please take a moment to check your child's database account to make sure there are adequate funds.

Beginning the week of September 22nd, any student that has an unpaid balance exceeding $10.00 will not be served a regular school lunch until payment has been made. We do not want any student to go hungry while at school, so if you have not paid the amount owed by this time, we will provide your child a granola bar or cheese sandwich and milk. Unpaid balances will also result in the suspension of your child’s online account until payment has been received.

Payments can easily be made by signing into your child’s database account, then clicking the “Other” tab on the far right of the top menu. Payments are also accepted through credit cards, checks, and money orders in the front office during normal operating hours. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the front office at 281-302-6445.

Accountability Ratings–HSS-High earns 6 distinctions

Texas Education Agency has recently announced the Accountability Ratings for Texas Public Schools and Districts for 2013-2014.

Under the new state accountability system, campuses in Texas that achieve the rating of Met Standard were also able to earn distinction designations in seven areas.

And HSS High met standard and earned six out of six eligible distinctions. There were only 26 districts in the state of Texas that received a distinction designation for postsecondary readiness and HSS Houston was one of them!

Congratulations to all students and teachers for their efforts and thank you parents for your continuous support!
