TAGE GeoWeek 2014 Poster Contest

Congratulations to all the Harmony School of Science-High students who participated in the Texas Alliance for Geographic Education (TAGE) Geography Awareness Week Poster Contest. Eight grader Ivy Le was chosen as a finalist in the middle school category for her great work and effort. Nadia Sorathia, a ninth grader, was selected for the high school category and place second overall in the state wide competition. She was honored at an award ceremony at the state capitol building in Austin on November 17, 2014, which kicked off the celebrations for GeoWeek 2014.

Established by presidential proclamation more than 25 years ago, GeoWeek is a public awareness program that encourages citizens to be mindful of the significance of geography and the implications of how we affect and are affected by it. Celebrated annually during the third week of November, this year’s theme “Geography of Food” urged students to explore the ways we are linked through food, and how what we consume connects us to many different places, people, and cultures. Students at HSS-High researched ideas and topics and responded with imagery and creativity. All contestants deserve to be commended for responding to the challenging subject with considerable insight and originality.

HSS-High Partners with DePelchin Children’s Center

Many thanks to our wonderful PTO for providing delicious box lunches and drinks for the representatives and making them feel welcome at our school. We are accepting gift cards(preferably Walmart, Target or Grocery Stores) and cash as well as new items to help them start over. Toiletries, household products, canned food, school supplies and cleaning supplies are also requested. Please no used items.

Harmony students, staff, administration and their families are well-known for their generosity, and we ask that you come through again for one of our own. Donations will be accepted in Room 219 next to Mrs. Merchant’s office. Please see Mrs. Merchant, Mrs. Anderson or Mr. Genc if you have any further questions.
