The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) prestigious certificates were awarded to our female students in 8th grade due to their commitment and excellence in Science and Math. This incentive is designed and promoted to inspire female students' interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).


Annual Student Picnic

Dear Parents,

We are having our Annual Student Appreciation Picnic !!

Date: Friday, May 22nd, 2015

Place: HSSH Backyard

Time: after the Students arrive from the College Day Pep Rally until 6:00 pm.

The PTO is sponsoring the Picnic, but we need a little help as we have approximately 750 Students ! We are asking for donations of chips and drinks.

July 6 (Mon): STAAR EOC English I Retest
July 7 (Tues): STAAR EOC Algebra I Retest
July 8 (Wed): STAAR EOC Biology Retest
July 9 (Thur): STAAR EOC US History Retest

All the tests will start at 8 AM. All tests are 4-hours test except English I which is a 5-hours test.


Let’s Celebrate! 8th Grade Graduation

We are preparing for Eighth Grade Graduation, which is scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm-3:00 pm.

We are currently in the process of ordering graduation caps and gowns for students. Students are required to purchase a cap and gown in order to participate in the 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony. The total cost for each cap and gown (including the tassel) is $25. Please, have your student turn in a $25 check or money order to their Social Studies teacher (Mrs. Barnett or Mrs. Brans) by the extended deadline on Monday, April 27th.

Due to limited parking, parents attending will be required to park at Eldridge Park and enter the campus by walking into the back gate entrance. Also, each student will be allowed a maximum of 3 guests due to limited space. We look forward to celebrating this joyous occasion with you and your student. Thank you to HBU mock trial coach Derrick Owens for assisting HSSH debate in a mock trial unit. Students in advanced debate worked with Owens over the course of five weeks in preparation for trial, which started on Thursday. The team plans to further work with HBU this summer in preparation for next year.


Graduation is Almost Here!!

Dear Senior Parents,

This is a very exciting time of year for all of us, but we need to remind you of a few important requirements and deadlines to make the end of the year run smoothly. First, your child will be bringing home a permission slip for the Annual Harmony College Acceptance Pep Rally, which will be held at Rice University on Friday May 22. This permission slip should be returned by your child to their Advisory teacher before this Friday, May 8.

Also, caps and gowns are in! Your child can pick them up, starting tomorrow, from Dr. Caputo in room 207 at their convenience. This must be done before the end of the school year. We know that you making preparations for senior portraits, and you want the caps and gowns as soon as possible, but you must understand that Harmony School of Science is not responsible for damage, staining, or loss of the cap and gowns after they have been received by your child. Make certain they look clean and presentable on the day of graduation. If there are any difficulties with picking up your academic attire, please contact Dr. Caputo (mcaputo@harmonytx.org) for assistance.

Tickets for the Commencement Ceremony are currently available in the Front Office of the high school. Please make sure that your child picks up the Ticket Request Form from the Front Office and returns it completed by the Friday, 5/8 to receive their tickets. The first 5 tickets are free of charge, and additional tickets will be on sale for $5 each. Checks can be paid to HSSH with your driver’s license number on the check or by credit card. Lost or missing tickets will not be replaced.
All information pertaining to the graduation exercises are available to the students in a pamphlet that is mailed home.
Hopefully, these guidelines will help you to have a smoothly-running and exciting and happy graduation for your child!




Summer Meals Begin!

Our children need nutritious meals to learn, grow and thrive-even when school is out. With the Summer Food Service Program, children and teens ages 18 and younger can continue to eat healthy throughout the summer at no cost, just by showing up at a participating meal site.

Last Saturday May 1st our HSSH Orchestra and Choir competed in the Music in the Parks Competition Located in San Antonio. Our Orchestra placed 1st in their division and our Choir Placed third. We look forward to next year and the opportunity to represent Harmony !

GT 2015-2016 Nominations Now Being Accepted

We are now accepting Gifted and Talented Nominations for the 2015-2016 school year.

Nominations will be accepted through the end of this school year and then again in the fall until the end of September, 2015. Students will be tested in the new school year.

Name That Book Competition

On Saturday, May 2nd, seven 8th grade students from Harmony School of Science-High competed in the annual Name That Book competition. These students placed first in the competition for their second year in a row, which is not an easy feat. For this competition, students must read 35 books ahead of time, listen to a random assortment of clues, and "name that book" in 45 second rounds.

HSS High Students Earn Scholarships at the Youth In Philanthropy Event

On Wednesday, April 22nd, five Harmony School of Science-High students, Sara G., Friyana S., Bulmaro R., Iyobo A.and Ahnaf R. Were commended for their excellent work in the Youth in Philanthropy Program at the Investment In Youth luncheon held at Safari Texas Ranch. These students were accompanied by Harmony Public School Superintendent Zekeria Yuksel, Director of Outreach Julie Norton, Principal Gultekin Kaya and Assistant Principal Afreen Merchant. According to thegeorgefoundation.org, “150 juniors and seniors, represented schools throughout Fort Bend County (19 campuses), develop and test different skill sets while making a difference in their community. YIP teams implement over 25 volunteer projects planned with the assistance of the local nonprofit sector, allowing students to discover the important role the nonprofit sector plays in their community.”

The luncheon, held at the end of the program, is an outlet for YIP students to showcase their volunteer work with each other, representatives from various businesses and the community.

Our seniors, were grateful for the opportunity given to them.

With the help of various different foundations in Sugar Land and the community, scholarships were awarded to a number of YIP students in recognition of their volunteer work.

Bulmaro, Iyobosasere, and Friyana were selected along with other Fort Bend students to receive a scholarship from YIP. These scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $1,250.

International Trips

Dear Valuable HSS-High Parents and Students,

As HSS-High tradition, the spring and summer break international trip season is officially open for 2015-2016. It is time to survey again to foresee where we want to go next year as a HSS-High Students and Parents. Basically, we want to see the trend of interests through the following interest surveys and work from there. That’s why; we really need everyone to take this one minute interest survey by Friday, May 1. This survey will help us to see what to do next. We really appreciate everyone who helps us to do such parent involvement and student engagement activities.

HSS High Participates in Global Youth Service Day and Environmental Education Day

To celebrate Global Youth Service Day and Environmental Education Day, 40 HSSH AP Physics students collaborated with the University of Houston Downtown on April 17th to participate in a hands on learning opportunity and to contribute to a clean up project along Buffalo Bayou. This program is part of an annual partnership with UHD to foster volunteerism as well as expose students to nature and local ecosystems. Special thanks to Mr. Ekinci for sponsoring and assisting with this trip.

It’s the Time We’ve all been Waiting for!

Harmony School of Science-High will be having its first class of seniors graduating this year! We are all very proud of these students, having watched them mature and grow through the years and become responsible young men and women ready to enter college and the futures that lie ahead of each of them. We, the administrators, faculty and staff of HSS Sugar Land High, would like to cordially invite you to join us at our First Annual Graduation Ceremony, on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Town Square, Sugar Land Marriott, located at 16090 City Walk, Sugar Land, TX 77479. Accountability Ratings–HSS-High Met Standards

Texas Education Agency has recently announced the Accountability Ratings for Texas Public Schools and Districts for 2013-2014.

Under the new state accountability system, campuses in Texas that achieve the rating of Met Standard were also able to earn distinction designations in seven areas.

And HSS High met standard and earned six out of six eligible distinctions. There were only 26 districts in the state of Texas that received a distinction designation for postsecondary readiness and HSS Houston was one of them!
