STAAR Test Dates

Chromebook Study

As you know, with the funding from Race to The Top District grant, Harmony Public Schools started a 1:1 technology initiative in the beginning of this school year, and handed a chrome book device to every single student and core subject teacher in grades 6 thru 12. All Harmony educators and leaders see this initiative as a tremendous opportunity to personalize student learning and radically improve achievement. With the right approach, leveraging technology can yield promising academic results and boost performance both for students and teachers. In an effort to assess effectiveness and improve our technology initiative, Harmony Public Schools intends to conduct a scholarly research on how technology integration into classrooms impacts students, teachers, and parents. This research will help school and district leaders at Harmony to make sound research-based judgments about future design and refinement of our technology programs. It will also give us a chance to get input from our most valued stakeholders. The researcher will keep participant identities confidential and will not release it to any Harmony employees, nor will he link any identities to survey inputs. We are excited about this research opportunity and would definitely like to see all our teachers, parents, and students participate as much as possible. Thank you for your continued support!

Check Your Child's Lunch Balance

Please check your child's lunch balance. You can see the exact balance, charges, and deposits by signing into your child’s database account and then clicking the “Other” tab on the far right of the top menu. Payments can easily be made with credit cards at the bottom of that same page by clicking “PAY ONLINE” below the table. Payments can also be made with credit cards, checks, or money orders in the front office during normal operating hours. (M-F 7:30am-5:00pm).

Beginning Monday, April 21st, any student that has an unpaid balance exceeding $20.00 will not be served a regular school lunch until payment has been received. We do not want any student to go hungry, so if a student has still not made payment by this date, we will provide them with a granola bar and milk.

We look forward to your cooperation resolving these outstanding balances. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact the front office at 281-302-6445.

HCSS - Software Engineering Corporation

The science department and administration of Harmony School of Science High – Sugar Land would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team at HCSS, a local Sugar Land software engineering corporation. Jim Spence, Software Specialist, and Tom Webb, Vice President of Programming, met with our science department team and administrators to discuss student involvement as interns or volunteers on the HCSS campus. As our first class of students enters its senior year, work-study and other internship arrangements will provide fantastic opportunities to enrich the Harmony School of Science High experience and help our students develop true 21st Century Skills. We are excited to continue building off-campus research and enrichment opportunities both next year and beyond.
Harmony School of Science High – Sugar Land strives to be a T-STEM campus in all facets of our educational initiative. T-STEM represents the Texas state education initiatives in science, technology, engineering and math. To become a T-STEM campus, we are seeking individuals from industry and local institutions of higher learning to support our students in these mutually beneficial research and intern arrangements. We are pleased to break ground on this facet of the T-STEM designation in order to help our students graduate with the highest possible caliber and an emphasis on the rigor of their experiential education. Again, very special thanks to HCSS for agreeing to meet with our science department and administration to discuss our students’ futures!

STAAR Testing Reminders

Dear Parents:

STAAR testing time has come. During the month of April, our 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grade students will take the STAAR/STAAR EOC tests. Students and teachers alike have been working rigorously since the beginning of the school year to master the skills needed to be successful on the STAAR tests and are confident that our students are ready. In order to help our students do their very best, here are a few reminders:

Please make sure your child comes to school on time. We expect every student to reach school by 7:35 am so that they do not feel rushed for their test and have ample time to settle in testing rooms. Also, make sure they get a good night’s sleep and have eaten a hearty breakfast the day of the test. This will help our students stay focused. Please talk to your child about the importance of the STAAR Test and encourage them to take it seriously. Encouraging your student to do his or her personal best can greatly improve self-confidence levels leading to better performance. read more . . .

2014-15 Enrollment Lottery Results

On March 27th, 2014, the lottery was conducted for the 2014-2015 school year applicants at Harmony School of Science High, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Harun Karan-Board designee, Seyit Ozturk-Harmony Public Schools representative, Gultekin Kaya-Principal, and parents were present at this lottery.

The principal provided the list of all applicants and the number of caps for each grade level. The lottery was conducted via lottery selection software. The software ensured that the winner list and the waiting list were selected randomly. The computerized lottery filled all available seats allowed by the enrollment cap. Then, the drawing continued, and the randomly-selected numbers was used to create a waiting list. As space become available, applicants will be called from the waiting list beginning with applicants with the lowest number assignment.

During lottery, sibling of current students (preference 2), applicants who applied on time (preference 3), and applicants who applied after the deadline (preference 4) were drawn. However, preference 2 students were shuffled among themselves and given priority. Preference 3 applicants were shuffled among themselves and came after preference 2. Preference 4 applicants came after preference 3 list and they were placed in order of the application date. Siblings of current students who applied after the deadline are also in preference 3.

The lottery results list is posted on the window by the main entrance doors at Harmony School of Science- High, 13522 W. Airport Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77478.

Winners will have 2 weeks to turn in a completed enrollment package to the registrar. Any winners that do not return this package during this time frame will be considered to have declined their opportunity, and we will begin accepting students in order from the waiting list. Students invited to enroll from the waiting list will have 48 hours to return the enrollment package, before the next person on the waiting list will be offered the spot.
